What is an Centering Plates?
Centering plates, also known as shuttering plates or formwork plates, are essential components in construction used to support and shape freshly poured concrete until it sets. These plates create a stable and uniform base, primarily for slabs, beams, columns, and other horizontal surfaces. Made from durable mild steel, centering plates are designed to bear heavy loads and ensure a smooth, level finish for concrete structures.
Each centering plate is typically fabricated as a flat sheet reinforced with welded stiffeners underneath to prevent bending or deformation under pressure. They are reusable, easy to handle, and available in standard sizes—commonly 600mm x 900mm or 600mm x 1200mm—allowing for quick assembly and dismantling on-site. Their modular design helps in covering large areas efficiently, reducing labor time and ensuring consistency across projects.
